WEATHER CONDITIONS AND SAILING AREA

In July the area (called "les
Pertuis") is
characterized by the regularity of the sea breeze and its interaction with
the synoptical wind.
The winds are mosty blowing from SW to NW (3 or 4
Beaufort in average). At about noon (14.00 local time), the sea breeze
arrives from the open sea and increases during the afternoon (up to 5 Beaufort)
La Rochelle being located
on the Atlantic coast, the heat never becomes unbearable, with maximal
temperatures about 22°C to 25°C. Water temperature
20°C in the Pertuis, 22°C near the coast.
Winds over 7
Beaufort should not be expected, as well as fog.
Tidal
streams are rather weak in the racing area (max. 1 knot) but should
not be ignored.
